This is a 2-dimensional ultrasound of the heart, also called an echocardiogram. This exam shows us how well the heart functions, along with the heart wall motion characteristics. We can rule out whether a patient has had a heart attack and damaged ventricular wall motion or not. We also assess the valves to check for plaque buildup, narrowing or whether there is leakage at the valve site. Patients that may be having mini-stokes may have tiny blood clots in their hearts and this test can rule this out as well. This test lasts approximately 30 minutes and requires no preparation.
