C. Andrew Heiskell, MD, FACS (Surgeon)
Dr. C. Andrew Heiskell, a third generation surgeon, has been serving people in the Morgantown area since 1975. Dr. Heiskell’s dedication to providing quality medical care has been a long standing tradition in his family; a tradition first started by the award-winning physician’s grandfather. His grandfather’s medical legacy includes establishing the area’s first nursing school and first fireproof hospital, which eventually combined with Monongalia General Hospital.
Dr. Heiskell was raised in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High. He entered the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University and graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1967. An internship and residency in the Northwestern system helped Dr. Heiskell fine-tune his skills before moving back to Morgantown to open a private surgical practice in 1975.
He has been continuously Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery since 1976 and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 1999, Dr. Heiskell received the honorable “Professional of the Year” award from the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce for his dedication to area residents.
Dr. Heiskell has been active with the local American Cancer Society Board and has been a member of the State Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society. He has also been a board member of the Monongalia General Hospital Foundation and was one of the original founders of the Greater Morgantown Charitable Trust.
He is married and the father of four children and attends Chestnut Ridge Community Church.
William H. Burns, MD, FACS (Surgeon)
Born and raised in Fairmont, Dr. Burns is committed to providing high quality medical and surgical care to patients in our area.
Dr. Burns received his medical degree from West Virginia University in 1992, followed by a residency at Charleston Area Medical Center. He is Board Certified with the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Since joining our practice in 1997, Dr. Burns has been active in the Morgantown medical community holding various positions at Monongalia General Hospital including Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff. Dr. Burns is also a member of the American Medical Association, the WV State Medical Association, has served on the Executive Board of the American Cancer Society and currently serves as the secretary for the WV Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Burns also enjoys providing leadership in his local community by sitting on various advisory boards and private school boards. Two of his current appointments are Regional Board member for BB&T Bank and Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce board member.
Dr. Burns and his wife make their home in Morgantown. They are parents of two daughters and a son and they attend St. Francis Catholic Church.
Todd E. Tallman, MD FACS (Surgeon)
Following in the footsteps of his father, a family physician first in Fairmont and then in New Martinsville, WV, Dr. Tallman continues his family’s tradition of providing expert medical care to the people of this region.
Dr. Tallman was born in Morgantown and received his medical degree from West Virginia University Medical School followed by a residency at Charleston Area Medical Center. After his training, he practiced in Wheeling for 4 years and then joined our practice in 2001.
Dr. Tallman is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the Morgantown medical community and has served as the Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff and as a member of the Medical Executive Committee at Monongalia General Hospital. He is a member of the West Virginia State Medical Association, the American Medical Association and sits on the board of the West Virginia Mutual Insurance Company.
Dr. Tallman and his wife live in Morgantown and have two children.
Shawna M. Grimm, DO
Dr. Grimm was born and raised in the Uniontown, PA and recently moved back to the area to join Heiskell King Burns & Tallman of Mon General as our newest surgeon.
She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2008, at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and then went on to complete her residency at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She also did a breast cancer research fellowship at Soll Lab Research, through the University of Iowa in 2011. She now hopes to settle in the area and pursue her career as a general surgeon and endoscopist.
She is a Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fan and loves the outdoors. She has a green belt in Eagle Claw Kung Fu and has participates in Tough Mudder runs and events around the country. Prior to her being accepted into medical school, she worked as an EMT for 6 years.
Ferdinand C. Martinez, MD FACS (Surgeon)
Dr. Martinez is a third generation surgeon, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who are surgeons in the Philippines. Dr. Martinez was born and raised in the Philippines but now resides with his wife and son in Waynesburg, where they have lived for the past 7 years.
After finishing medical school, Dr. Martinez completed his medical residency in Brooklyn, NY and then went on to complete a fellowship in bariatric surgery at the University of South Florida. Following his residency and fellowship, he joined the surgical staff at Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg, PA where he served at the medical director of the Wound and Hyperbaric Center and the chairman of surgical services.
He now joins the staff of Heiskell King Burns & Tallman of Mon General and is excited to continue providing surgical services to the people of Waynesburg and the surrounding areas by opening a new office in Waynesburg. His hope is to remain connected to the patients he has cared for since arriving in PA seven years ago.
Dr. Martinez is an avid martial artist and is hoping to get his black belt in Judo soon. He attends St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Waynesburg with his wife and son. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Carla Dunaway, ACNP-BC (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner)
Carla joined our practice in 2002 as an RN but in 2004 decided to pursue a nurse practitionership in acute care. After completing her degree at the University of Pittsburgh, she transitioned into a new role with our practice as an Advanced Practice RN with a specialty in acute care.
Carla not only assists our physicians in surgery and on rounds at the hospital, but as a part of our surgical care team, she provides pre and post-operative care in the clinic. You may see Carla independent of your surgeon for services such as post-operative visits, follow-up visits or to discuss and schedule surgery.
Adrienne Park, PAC (Physician Assistant)
Adrienne joined our practice in 2010 after finishing her physician assistant training at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. She is a certified physician assistant who works not only with our physicians at the hospital assisting in surgery and evaluating patients but also sees patients in the clinic.
Adrienne is part of our physician extender team providing pre and post-operative care in the clinic which allows for patients to be seen in a timely fashion. You may see Adrienne independent of your surgeon for services such as post-operative visits, follow-up visits or to discuss and schedule a colonoscopy.
